Pete Best Sunday Herald Sun April
24, 1994
Long in the wilderness without the help of a major hit or major
record company, Keays was himself under pressure, and he has turned out a real
gem. The first single Waiting for the Big One, is an emphatic pop anthem
with a Doug Ford guitar solo which stands above the break like a
shimmering exclamation mark.
Keays' talents are more varied than younger listeners have the right to expect
(although the Masters Rio De Camero and Love Is gave the
game away years ago) and other diamonds here include Bridges, Somebody Loves You and the title track. It's an unsual voice, and less
inclined to shout for attention as it did years gone by. And, like Peter
Gabriel cutting across the mellifuous arrangements of Genesis in the early
'70's, its incongruity is attractive. But it is the standout songwriting that
will win most hearts.
(Note: in December Pete Best hailed this as
Album of the Year)
